Abstract

From allowing a surgeon to perform laparoscopy without an assistant to enabling a person to carry heavy luggage while opening the door, movement augmentation by extension of degrees-of-freedom (DoFs) allow users to control additional supplementary effectors independently from natural movement. With more than 600 muscles in our body, the dimensionality of these muscles is much higher than the body’s mechanical DoFs. The redundancy in our motor system may be used as a control signal for the supplementary effectors.

In this talk I will present our ongoing investigations in the movement augmentation by exploring redundancy from the level of muscle and motoneuron.
