Models of networks with spiking neurons, in recent time, have become workhorses of theoretical neuroscientists. Usually such networks are studied for their dynamical properties. But they are also powerful tools to guide the analysis of neural data. I will discuss constraints that network structure and dynamics impose on analysis and interpretation of data, which unfortunately are, largely ignored. Finally, I will introduce the "system prediction challenge" which may help us develop a network oriented approach to neuroscience.
The talk is open to the public. Guests are cordially invited!
