Nonspecific Currents through Neuronal Voltage-Gated Calcium Channels

Voltage-gated calcium channels (VGCCs) are very important in processes taking place in nervous system. Ca2+ channels are highly selective for Ca2+ ions at physiological states. However, their selectivity can be lost under certain experimental conditions or even pathological states. It can lead to alteration in their functioning and some negative consequences for the whole organism. Further investigation of biophysical properties of VGCCs can elucidate the questions of functioning of these protein structures and their constituents in vitro, in vivo, at physiological and pathophysiological states that are the consequences of alterations in functioning of VGCCs.
