Functional analysis of Fez2 in the development of olfactory system

Friday, August 1st, 2008

Library, Bernstein Center, Hansastr. 9a
We studied the role of Forebrain embryonic zinc-finger gene 2 (Fez2, also known as Fezf1) in the development of olfactory system which mainly consists of olfactory epithelium (OE) and olfactory bulb (OB). Olfactory receptor neurons (ORNs) project their axons from OE to OB to convey odorant information. We found that Fez2 is exclusively expressed in basal part of OE in mouse olfactory system. By generating Fez2-deficient mice we revealed that Fez2 is essential for the ORNs axons to reach OB.
The talk is open to the public. Guests are cordially invited!
