Music and digital dance improvisation with Dr. Massimo Cenciarini (University Medical Center, Freiburg)

A dancer and two jazz musicians meet and improvise together. What makes it so special? It is the dancer’s digital body that is in motion – her avatar. How genuine is the representation of the body? How does the musicians’ improvisation on the digital representation of the dancer change? A sensor suit allows to record as well as to analyze motions and to project a reduced representation of the body on a screen. Dr. Massimo Cenciarini, researcher in the CaliMotion project of BrainLinks-BrainTools, gives an introduction on how the motion capture technique, which is well-known from the film industry, is used in the context of clinical research. This event, being artistic performance, experiment and theoretical introduction at the same time, is organized by the cluster of excellence of the University of Freiburg BrainLinks-BrainTools and the Bernstein Center Freiburg. It takes place within the international conference Computational Neuroscience and the Hybrid Brain. Therefore, the event will be exceptionally conducted in English.

The Science Jams, an event series of the cluster of excellence BrainLinks-BrainTools and the Bernstein Center Freiburg, present science in unusual contexts – far away from lecture halls and seminar rooms. The event addresses the general public. The number of seats is limited, a reservation is not possible. The entrance is free but donations are welcome.
