Ulrich P. Froriep at the Sloan-Swartz meeting in San Diego 2012

froriep.jpgIn June 2012, together with other members of the Bernstein Network, I had the opportunity to take part in the annual meeting of the Sloan-Swartz Centers for Theoretical Biology, held in the San Diego Supercomputer Center of the UCSD in La Jolla in California.
I enjoyed this event very much and I was invited to present a poster and to give an oral presentation about my PhD studies in front of well known scientists in the field, such as Terry Sejnowski, Scott Makeig and Robert Shapley.
Another highlight was the evening visit of the nearby Birch Aquarium including an after-dinner talk by E. J. Chichilnisky.
Moreover, coming from the more experimental side of neuroscience I was glad to see that throughout the conference attempts were made to strongly relate results obtained from a computational perspective back to biological experiments.
Last, but not least, during my stay in San Diego I got an invitation for an interview at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge where I will start as a Postdoc in November of 2012.
