Quantum Transport on One-Dimensional Networks with Long-Range Interactions

Abstract:
In this thesis the continuous-time quantum walk approach is applied to investigate the quantum transport of excitons on discrete structures and compared to the behaviour of classical particles described by the continuous-time random walk. The focus lies on quantities which characterise the transport properties of the network as a whole. In particular the effects of modifications to one-dimensional infinite systems with nearest-neighbour interactions are investigated. As exemplary systems, small-world networks and networks with long-range interactions with and without traps are considered in detail. Significant differences between classical and quantum mechanical transport behaviour are extracted and analysed.
