Abstract:
I will show how the model changes if one trains neurons within a circuit (""liquid"") for specific tasks, or equivalently, if one takes feedback from trained readouts into account. One arrives then (in the idealized noisefree case) even for quite simple circuit models at a new computational model, which has universal properties not only for digital computation but also for analog computation. In simplified terms this says, that a fixed neural circuit can in principle learn to carry out any theoretically possible analog computation on time-varying inputs. In the second part of the talk I will focus on experimentally testable predictions of the Liquid State Machine model for cortical computation, and will present the results of in-vivo tests (carried out at the MPI Frankfurt) of two of these predictions.
